Robbie Deans is set to continue as Australia coach until after the British & Irish Lions tour in 2013.
According to reports in The Sydney Morning Herald the former All Black will be offered a two-year extension to his current deal, which expires after the Rugby World Cup, following the Super Rugby season.
Deans took the reins in the wake of the Wallabies' poor showing at the 2007 World Cup, having become Super Rugby's most successful coach during his time with the Crusaders.
He has instigated a successful youth policy, introducing Quade Cooper, James O'Connor and Kurtley Beale to the Test arena, and presided over victories against the All Blacks, South Africa and France in 2010.
Australian Rugby Union (ARU) chief John O'Neill admitted that he would like to see Deans put pen to paper on a new contract, although he also confirmed that no formal discussions had taken place.
He said. ''Personally, I am a great Robbie Deans supporter, and the prospect of him extending his contract is something I am very much in favour of,"
